The Modern Evolution of Right Arm of the "Free World"
As time went on, the LAR, once called the "Right Arm of the Free World," began to show its downsides—mainly being too heavy and lacking modern modular features. To address these issues, manufacturer released a modernized version in the 1990s.
This updated model kept the classic LAR design while introducing several improvements to meet modern combat needs. First, the LAR OSW used lightweight aerospace-grade aluminum and improved manufacturing techniques to reduce its overall weight. It also featured a redesigned Picatinny rail system, making it easier to mount optics, tactical lights, and other accessories. Additionally, shorter barrel configurations like the carbine and compact models were introduced to better suit CQB scenarios..
The goal of the LAR OSW was to combine the legendary durability of the original with modern modularity, making it suitable for military & law enforcement, and civilian markets. It not only preserved the timeless value of the LAR design but also solidified its place in the modern firearms market.
VFC’s LAR OSW MK1 GBB takes these modern features a step further. The original Picatinny rail system at the front has been replaced with a more up-to-date M-LOK handguard. The upper receiver now sports a CNC-machined Picatinny rail, paired with a para version folding stock. VFC has managed to keep the iconic look of the classic design while giving players more options for modern accessories, breathing new life into this legendary weapon.
